Strip Grates – Sleek, Efficient Drainage for Contemporary Bathrooms
Strip grates, also known as linear or trench drains, offer a sophisticated yet functional solution for contemporary wet areas. Unlike traditional point drains that dominate the shower floor, linear grates run the length of the space—creating seamless, high-performance drainage that looks sleek and elegant.
More than just a visual upgrade, they're designed for efficiency:
-
Superior Water Flow: Their narrow, elongated profile captures runoff efficiently—ideal for large-format tiles and barrier-free showers.
-
Custom Installation: Easily cut to length or interlinked for bespoke sizing. The channel can also accommodate variable waste outlets for flexibility.
-
Waterproof and Durable: Installed before waterproofing, these units ensure water re-enters the drainage, not behind the tiles—eliminating common leak issues.
-
Stylish Finish Options: Available in finishes like matte black, brushed stainless, aged brass, and chrome-plated brass to complement any bathroom décor.
Key Benefits of Strip Grates

| Better Hygiene & Cleaning | Oversized channels and removable grates simplify debris removal. |
Design & Style Inspirations
-
Wall-to-Wall Coverage: A continuous channel along one side delivers a dramatic minimalist effect.
-
Tile Insert Options: Some grates allow for tile to be embedded in the cover—perfect for seamless finishes.
-
Patterned Metal Grates: Choose ribbed or geometric designs for added visual texture that catches light.
Brands like Strip Grate Australia offer tailored kits and finishes purpose-built for luxury yet contemporary bathrooms.
Choosing the Right Strip Grate
-
Measure Your Shower Area
-
Use a channel length that spans most of a wall or threshold—standard kits like 750mm, 900mm, or longer are adaptable.
-
-
Positioning & Slope
-
A single slope toward the channel at the shower entrance simplifies tanking and tiling.
-
-
Select Stainless or Brass Materials
-
Ensure corrosion resistance and structural integrity—especially in high moisture areas.
-
-
Consider Custom Outlets
-
Many kits allow you to choose where the outlet is located along the channel for plumbing flexibility.
-
Installation & Maintenance Tips
-
Install Before Waterproofing: Embed the channel level with the damp-proof membrane to catch stray water.
-
Adjustable Outlet Placement: Align the outlet to avoid unnecessary pipe rerouting.
-
Grate Access for Cleaning: Removable strips or covers make tile cleaning and maintenance easier.
-
Visual Integration: Ensure linear drains align with tile grout lines for a polished finish.
